Maintenance Options Our maintenance option comes with no contract. Many people find the service invaluable for the first few months when the new aquarium goes through the nitrogen cycle and the filter takes time to establish itself, it is during this stage that most problems are encountered.
Others who enjoy having the aquarium but for a various reasons don't have the time or ability to perform all the weekly tasks find the full maintenance service as way of enjoying the fish keeping hobby without any of the work.
Full Maintenance includes the following.
* A weekly visit at an agreed time to perform a 20-30% water change. This is essential in keeping toxins such as Ammonia levels down and prevents disease. Water is syphoned from the tank and taken away, it is replaced by fresh water treated to remove chlorine and other harmful elements.
* Weekly cleaning of gravel or sand. Waste food and fish waste is cleaned from the gravel using a syphon to prevent harmful levels of toxins building up.
* Weekly cleaning of algae growth. Algae is present in all aquariums and although not dangerous to the fish can look unsightly and be hard to get rid of if it is not kept under control. The sides of the aquarium will be cleaned to make sure your aquarium looks its best at all times.
* Monthly water parameter testing. The water will be tested once a month to test for Nitrate, Ammonia, pH and Nitrite levels. This is essential in not only making sure the water is safe for the fish but also serves as an early warning for any potential problems preventing any disease outbreak.
* Monthly filter media cleaning. Keeping the filter in the aquarium working as effectively as possible is very important but a knowledge of the bacteria in the filter and how it works to rid the aquarium water of toxins is required. We will ensure that the filter is working at its optimal efficiency creating safe and clean water for the fish.
